Wednesday the club hosted the return visit from our friends in Inniscarra which saw a large contingent arriving but when all the names were entered there was an equal balance with 27 members from each club. Some great scoring on the night but the 19th hole was the best with the lovely cakes and pastries that were baked by the ladies committee and supplemented by some shop bought. Club President, Dave Linehan made his return after 9 months absence and scored a hole in one on his first pitch on the 13th , a promising start but while 13 is a lucky number for some on this occasion Dave’s game wasn’t one of his better ones. Saturday the rain caught some of the competitors out as they were given an unexpected shower while practicing and had to abandon play. Rick O’Mahony was in the winners enclosure for both nett and gross taking the nett with Frank Riordan on 41 and the gross with Paddy Dennehy with 5 under, beating Mick Lehane and John Ahern on the back nine while John Dineen and Gentleman John took second nett with 42.5.
Sunday Morning Gentleman John and Mary O’Donovan with more shots than Bonnie and Clyde won the Nett with 53 points in Stableford while the Father and Son Combination of Mick and Darren O’Leary conspired to keep Mum Valerie in second place scoring 52 points but taking the gross with 46 points leaving Val and Paddy Dennehy to take second nett with 52 points with 27 on the back nine. John Dineen and Noel McCarthy took 2nd gross with 42 points.The rest of us went home with our hands hanging and memories of what if and the 5 minute shower at the half way point. Sunday evening and with the heavy showers only a few brave-hearts ventured out resulting in Gretchen Ahern, Pat Conway and Gentleman John Curtin taking the nett.Fourballs continue over the weekend.
