With the combined handicap heading for the final on Wednesday night, some surprising results see Pat Twomey and P J Curtin squaring up to the winners of the A Semi Final between the combination of Tim Linehan and Betty White playing against Gretchen Ahern and Sheila O’Leary. Gretchen and Sheila got a bye from the first round and defeated Pat Moore and Rick O’ Mahony while Pat & P J came through the prelims defeating Pat & Catherine O’Keeffe and Dan Shine and George Bolton who got out of the trap beating Mick Lehane and Mary O’Donovan.and got a walkover from J P Murphy and John O’Sullivan as John was temporaily indisposed. George was a late substitution replacing Margaret Bowen who was unable to field on the night. Tim and Betty got the better of Pat Conway and Eileen Murphy who had in turn knocked out John Curtin and Darren O’Leary and were unfortunate to go under to Tim and Betty.
Saturday there was good turnout for the fourball which saw Mrs Curtin’s boys back in winning form with John for the Nett with John Ahern while P J was graced with Eileen Murphy for the gross.
Sunday morning after the big electrical storm a number of seasoned stalwarts or if you prefer some loose cannons played resulting in P J Curtin taking the nett with J P Murphy while Billy Fitton ensured that John Dineen got his pocket money for the week by winning again with him taking the gross on Sunday night leaving the nett to Rick O’Mahony and John Ahern. Rumour has it that Billy is heading to Italy for a very important meeting with a very special young lady.
