Saturday saw John Dineen, Paddy Dennehy and Frank Riordan take the nett with a score of 91 while PJ was back in the fold along with Pat Conway and Ted Canty to take the gross. There was a very good turnout on Sunday for the Club Strokeplay which saw Mick O’Leary winning the Gents while Valerie O’Leary was the winner in the Ladies section . Rick O’Mahony gave it a good shot to retain the title but Mick O’Leary was in great form and had a superb back 18 to gross at 101. Rick won the runner up in the +3 to 5 category with 106 while Pat Moore back from the Sunny Canaries was the runner up in the 6-16 category with 107. Sunday evenings fourball saw Pat Moore and John Dineen taking the nett with 39 while Mick O’Leary and Betty White took the gross with 47. A change to the club leagues which has been renamed as Remembrance in memory of all the past club members that have passed on sees the competition extended to the afternoon session. A very dedicated Club Member who has been in poor health for a while passed on last week. Eugene (Eudie) McCarthy was one of the original founding members and over the years both him and his deceased wife Jo were the backbone of the club. whatever work was needed Eudie was there to help out and nothing was too much trouble. He hasn’t played with a number of years but his presence on the course was felt and he was often mentioned in conversation. He is now back with his old buddies and no doubt both he and John O’ are sharing the well worn flask that was always full and was a regular at the end of a fourball. Go naraidh an bother leat Eudie, till we meet again RIP.
