Lakewood Results w/e 8-4-2018

Wednesday saw the pairing of the Macroom Boys Noel Mac and John Ahern in the winners enclosure having made easy going of the course to take the nett while new member Alan Kelly took the gross on his maiden outing with Sheila O’Leary. Alan is playing with a number of years and has played more courses over his playing period, its lovely to see him in Lakewood as an associate member and looking forward to seeing his name on the winners list in the coming months and especially if I have the pleasure of partnering him in a fourball.
Saturday saw the return of Captain Frank who brought the Sun back from Lanzarote which heated up the course but Josie Twomey had her own heater in the form of John O’Sullivan who was on fire and having sunk a 20ft putt on the fourth Josie compared him to Rory McIllory. Josie herself got so excited with John’s play that she started shooting birdies like she was at the fair. The Macroom pair were back also but John Ahern was partnered with Ted Canty and took the overall gross on the back nine from Noel Mac and his shooting partner P J Curtin who had to settle for second nett while the O’Leary Girls Sheila and Valerie (no relation) went home with second gross. The rest of us went home with various memories of what could have been if only ?
Sunday morning and the rain was back but that didn’t deter the brave hearted that turned up in a large number. Val O’Leary was also back and with Gentleman John made sure that they were both going home with the nett with a very respectable 49 points on the championship course while Bart Millard and John Dineen secured the gross with 7 under. Pat Moore and Catherine O’Keeffe were there for second nett with 48 points.
Sunday evening Alan Kelly and Mick Healy took the nett with Eileen Murphy and Rick O’Mahony taking the gross.
From next weekend the evening fourball is moving to the later time of 7 pm. Membership is still available and the course is open to green fees. Cards continue on Tuesdays in the Members Bar.
The Club Strokeplay is set for Sunday 22nd April, the first of the Club Competitions for 2018 and Rick O’Mahony will have some tough competition to retain his title.
