George Bolton was first in the queue last Wednesday to ensure he had the pick of the players and was very lucky with his draw as he was in the Winners enclosure with Frank Riordan for Nett and Mick Lehane for Gross. George and Frank had a very respectable under par and with a large handicap coming off they were comfortable winners. Mick Lehane was on fire diking 6 of the last seven holes and just missing out on the last with a near miss.. The AGM on Monday saw Frank taking the Captaincy for the first time and also retaining the Chair for another year while the Ladies elected Catherine O’Keeffe as Lady Captain with Betty White, Vice Captain.Gretchen, Pat Moore, Billy, Paddy Dennehy, Sheila O’Leary, Margaret Bowen., Pat O’Keeffe all kept their positions while Newcomer Alison Harvey was drafted in to bring fresh blood to the committee. Dave Linehan was returned as President with Pat Conway and Joe Kavanagh as Vice Presidents while Darren O’Leary heads up the Juvenile Brigade as Juvenile Officer.
The Turkey Competition is now in week 4 and again the standard was very high with Billy Fitton and Mary Donovan taking second nett with a nett of 36.5 which under normal circumstances would be a clear winner but John Ahern and John Curtin, the course experts came in with a superb 34.5 nett which include John Ahrens hole in one on the 12th leaving him in pole position for the double payout for October and November. Pat Conway was drawn with PJ Curtin who motivated him to help her into the Winners enclosure for the Gross with a magnificent 9 under. After last weeks discussion on the visability of using pink tees quite a number were in play over the weekend.Nice to see John O’Sullivan and Darren O’Leary back playing over the weekend. Noel McCarthy and Dave Linehan are both recuperating at present and are not expected back until the new year. Next week its Stableford giving the high handicappers an opportunity to bag their birds.
