The fine weather over the weekend saw the Members out in force on both days. The drop of rain has softened the greens somewhat which when pitched are likely to hold. In the same token the fairways are also softened so dropping a ball short and hoping for a run is no longer an option. Saturday saw some great scoring with Mick O’Leary and John Curtin shooting a 39 nett which a few weeks ago would have guaranteed the overall nett but on this occasion they had to settle for second nett as Mickey Ryan and Josie Twomey returned a nett of 33 with Mickey chalking up 8 birdies. Billy Fitton in his usual fashion encouraged PJ Curtin to dig deeper and raise his game as he was heading on the town and had use for the extra cash. PJ rose to the challenge and delivered the gross with 7 under with Billy’s contribution. The large turnout created a second gross which ensured that Alan Kenneally mounted the winners podium with John Dineen shooting a magnificent 6 under. Sunday morning again saw the numbers swelling and with the even figures a three ball was the game of the day with two scores to count. The Elder Lemon of the Club, Tim Murphy was in superb form and partnered by the next in line for the title along with the baby of the team, Patricia Conway took the overall nett with a score of 82 while Deirdre O’Sullivan, Sheila O’Leary and Tim Linehan took second nett with 84. Bart Millard had a very casual round with the O’Keeffe’s, Pat & Catherine discussing the recent Golf and reminiscing on GAA matches of old and took the gross with 103. Next weekend a number of the Club Members are taking part in the Peter Healy Competition in the Ranges where Peter spent a good number of years as a Club Officer and also was involved as Competition Secretary for the County Board,
The Course is closed until April 2023 for Green Fees. This will enable the Grounds Team to carry out the required maintenance that ensures the course is at its best for players. We would like to thank everyone that paid and played in 2022 and invite them to take out Full Membership for 2023. The Christmas Competitions will be starting the October weekend and will continue up to the week before Christmas.
